Course Description

This course lasts for 2 weeks, and you’ll be covering a range of topics around designing and running evaluations, and executing them in the field with the same rigor as a practitioner. We’ve prepared in-class training manuals, hands-on practical exercises and problem sets to aid in your learning. The hands-on practical exercises will help you stay engaged with the materials being presented. The problem sets will demand you to think through the concepts raised in the training and help you develop a strong foundation from which to think about desiging and running evaluations for social and developmental programs. The training requirements are not overly demanding and should be very easy for most of you. Kindly refer to Course Schedule to have a sense of the overall structure of the course.

Computing

The instructor will use STATA to demonstrate techniques. To participate in the hands-on exercises, you’re strongly encouraged to bring a laptop computer. STATA software to be used for the hands-on exercise will be freely made available to trainees. Trainees only need a Basic familiarity with STATA to get the full value of the course.

The course is relevant to Consultants, Academicians, Monitoring and Evaluation Experts and anyone who wants to learn designing and evaluating RCT and Quasi-Experimental Social and Developmental Programs.

Location, Format and Materials

The training will begin from 9 AM to 5 PM each day with a one hour lunch break at the Research Commons of the University of Ghana, Legon. The participants will receive a detailed training manual and many other useful materials including STATA software for computation activities/or exercises. These materials are meant to free participants from the distracting task of taking notes during training delivery.

Registration and Lodging

The registration fee includes all training materials. The early registration fee discount of 10% is available until the last 2 weeks before the commencement of the training. A block of guest rooms has been reserved at the University of Ghana Guest House located on the university campus at a special rate of $70-$100 per night. This location is about 10 minutes walk to the training location on campus. In order to make reservation, call +233 206 991 717 during business hours for reservation assistance. For guaranteed rates and availability, you must reserve your room no later than 2 weeks before the commencement of the training. If you need to make reservations after the cut-off date, other residential faciilities around the University of Ghana campus will be made available to you.
